(Update) Draft Day: Albert Haynesworth to the Vikings?

As if there wasn’t already enough to talk about here on draft day, a new rumor is floating that the Vikings have had discussions with the Redskins about Albert Haynesworth.

The defensive tackle is reportedly unhappy with new Skins coach Mike Shanahan‘s plan to install a 3-4 defense and wants out. Anyone who does trade for Haynesworth gets not only a potentially dominant player but a giant pain in the butt.

The move would make sense for the Vikings only in that Pat Williams is in the last year of his contract and figures to retire after the season.

Haynesworth seems like more trouble than he’s worth to me, but then again, the thought of him lining up on the same D-line with Jared Allen and Kevin Williams is slightly terrifying.

Here’s where we crank up the “move K-Will outside and play Haynesworth alongside Fat Pat” talk. Hmm…I don’t know.

More updates throughout the day…if the server issues don’t prevent me from posting. There’s always Twitter.

Update: Judd Zulgad just shot this down pretty definitively. Moving on…

Topics: Albert Haynesworth, Jared Allen, Kevin Williams, Minnesota Vikings, Pat Williams

Apparently, the Bills also think Chilly will draft Tebow. Anyone who knows the man who drafted T-Jack can believe it.

I don’t think the Vikes will draft a QB if not Tebow. The Star Trib and others are saying Clausen is hard to deal with. The Vikes don’t like McCoy’s lack of arm strength.

I think they drafted Lito Shepard so they didn’t have to go CB. Shepherd will back up the injuries to Winfield and Griffen, who they don’t want to replace.

I don’t see the urgency to draft a DT or even OL, while the Vikings have such miserable safeties. I am now betting on S Taylor Mays if he falls to them, which I read could very well happen. If we get a big fast safety like Mays, who can roam the field making plays, I will be pumped!!!

If they get Haynesworth, DT is also eliminated.

C/G Pouncy is a possibility, but both Kiper and McShay think Pitt will take him, also the very respected RICK GOSSELIN.

Kiper now thinks the Vikes will take Tebow, while McShay and Gosselin say Clausen. But even if Clausen falls and the Vikes should take him I don’t think they can work with him.

Sid Hartman emphatically insists he knows the Vikings will take a CB if he is there. That could only be Chris Cook, (who can also play safety in man to man).

Chris Cook is projected in the mid first round so maybe the Vikes trade back.

Sid says if he isn’t there, the Vikings could go anywhere including OL Pouncy but not QB or RB in the early rounds.

Apparently, Denver wants to take Tebow early.

I meant Chris Cook is projected in the mid second round, although the KFAN draft selected him in the first.

Haynesworth would help out the Vikes. I think everyone fan knows that we need to do whatever it takes to win the Superbowl this year. All the right cards are in the deck.

That would make our defense ever more spectacular!

Citing a “reliable” source, NFL.com’s Steve Wyche reports the Vikings will not draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. The Vikes may still be targeting a cornerback.

The Vikings will likely trade down and take CB/S Chris Cook.

I disagree with the Vikings unless they can also trade up to get S Nate Allen in the second round. They need a safety that can roam making plays in their cover-2.

Hanesworth! and Williams for the next 5 years make the deal Chilly, look too trade out of the 1st round grab some extra picks too 2nds would be great, you’d still get quality players to fill needs spots and save money. Hanesworth wants to be in a 4-3, why not go too a Superbowl contender with a Hall of Fame QB (Make a brother happy! make the deal Chilly!!!)

Thanks too the stupid Jets the second best corner is gone, so Minny has pick 34 & 62 in the second round, 2 (4th,5th,7th,& 1 6th) what’s the best move. Trade for Hanesworth with 62, grab CB/S Chris Cook with 34th maybe Rolle Florida St. CB, trade 5th,6th,& 7th for a 3rd, then you’ll have (2) 3rds, 4ths, (1) 5th, & 7th. Fill the need spots, then kick ths Saints Ass! on Thursday Night Opener, they want to go after Brett, it’s time Brees feels the cheap shouts Brett felt in the Championship Game! Viking 4ever
