Visanthe Shiancoe doesn’t even know if he will still have Brett Favre as a teammate come the start of the season. But that doesn’t matter to Visanthe, who has Favre’s back no matter what.
And Shiancoe would like Darren Sharper to know that, in his capacity as Brett’s wingman, he didn’t appreciate Sharper’s recent remarks suggesting the Saints plan to go after the QB’s bad ankle when they face the Vikings on opening night.
Sharper’s now-infamous tweet from a few days ago reads, “Well y’all seen Brett had surgery on that ankle we got after in the championship game. Come Thursday night 1st game. X marks the spot.”
In an interview after Thursday’s OTAs session, Shiancoe replied to the aging Saints safety: “That’s all good, but Sharper had surgery, too … and it was the knee. If ‘X’ makes the spot on Brett, I wonder what marks the spot on Sharper.”
I believe this is what’s known as a War of Words.
Such verbal sparring makes for good off-season entertainment, but as we all know, none of it will matter squat come Sept. 9 when the Vikings and Saints don their shoulder pads for the NFC Title Game rematch.
Once the game starts, Visanthe, Darren and Brett will let their play do the talking.
Let’s hope that, this time, the Saints’ play doesn’t involve a bunch of cheap low blows against Favre.
