Brett Favre is still not ready to publicly announce that he will play the 2010 season at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings.
But, in a new interview, he drops the biggest hint yet that he is beginning to get that old familiar itch.
And this time the itch may be itchier than usual, thanks to the way things ended last season against that team from New Orleans.
“I would love to go beat the Saints,” Favre tells Al Jones of the Biloxi Sun Herald. The quarterback adds, “I know I can still play at a high level. Last year was a great year, but it could have been better.’”
Favre also told Jones that his rehab from ankle surgery is going according to schedule.
So far, everything is falling into place as expected. The “will probably retire” stage gave way to the waffling stage, and now that has segued neatly into the “leaning toward playing” stage. We can probably expect a few more encouraging statements like the above in the coming weeks, then, between camp and preseason, the official announcement.
