So Brett Favre Doesn’t Need Camp?
Listen. I’m a glass is half full kind of guy and there were some good things to take away from this game. Let the record show I’m expecting a good season out of this team. But still, we lost 14-9 in what was a sluggish game for a team that supposedly had been waiting months to inflict revenge. Tony Dungy at the end of the game stated that Vikings fans should be concerned about this team on it’s passing game. He later went on to talk about how Favre looked tired in the second half and how his body language [...]
Halftime Stock Report
UP Adrian Peterson: 13 carries for 57 yards. Also has pounded ball to keep Saints D on the field. Visanthe Shaincoe: 4 catches for for 76 yards and a TD. Shank Special Baby! Shank now has 19 TD catches since 2008, which is among NFL TEs. We need more of this Shank until Sticky Rice is back. Lito Sheppard: Sheppard was supposed to be a liability in pass coverage. Haven’t seen it yet. DOWN Ryan Longwell: Nice on the Field Goal, but lets hope the missed Extra Point doesn’t haunt us in second half. Asher Allen: Dropping an easy pick [...]
Vikings Lead Saints 9-7 at the Half
After a stunningly quick game-opening 5-play, 77-yard touchdown drive by the Saints, it looked like it might be a very long night for the Vikings. But, as it turned out, those 7 points would be the last points of the half for the Saints. The Vikings defense, which looked utterly inept early, tightened things up in the second quarter. The secondary, as we feared, did get shredded initially, especially the side being covered by inexperienced corner-safety combo Asher Allen and Husain Abdullah. But the Vikings started running some zone blitzes at the Saints, and started shuffling personnel. They began getting [...]
John Sullivan In, Cedric Griffin Out
In the end, Cedric Griffin couldn’t answer the bell. The cornerback, who missed all of training camp and preseason recovering from an ACL but still reportedly had a chance of making it on the field for tonight’s game, is listed among the Vikings’ inactives. Griffin is joined by fellow cornerback Chris Cook, QB Joe Webb, RB Toby Gerhart, G Chris DeGeare, DT Jimmy Kennedy, TE Mickey Shuler and DE Everson Griffen. The news is better for John Sullivan, who despite missing all of preseason like Griffin, will be on field tonight. In fact, he will be starting at center. And [...]
Vikings Begin 2010 Season With Saints Re-Match
The Vikings‘ new quest for Super Bowl glory will begin where the last one ended: the Superdome in New Orleans. The bitter feeling from January’s NFC Title Game has barely subsided, and here we are already preparing for the re-match. Those seven-and-a-half months went by quickly, and they were certainly eventful. Since January 24th, we’ve seen Brett Favre almost retire, then waffle, then reluctantly return. We’ve seen top receiver Sidney Rice undergo a hip surgery that will keep him out for half the season. We’ve watched Percy Harvin collapse on the practice field, Ray Edwards grumble about his contract, Sage [...]
5 Questions for Who Dat Dish
In hopes of gaining some insight into the Vikings‘ opponent for Thursday night – that would be the Saints, for those who have been living on Jupiter – I asked Who Dat Dish blogger Keith Null five penetrating questions. And here are his answers: Q: We know the Saints are Super Bowl champs, but 2010 is a new season and everybody’s got to start from scratch. What are your biggest concerns about the team going into the opener? A: Returning 20 of 22 starters from last season is a very good start and arguably the defense you see take the [...]
Vikings Release Final Injury Report
Chris Cook and Jimmy Kennedy are officially listed as out for tomorrow night’s sure-to-be-epic clash with the Saints. Cook is recovering from a knee injury suffered in the last preseason game, while Kennedy continues to battle the bad knee that has bothered him for a couple of weeks. The news is better on John Sullivan. Last year’s starting center missed all of preseason with a calf injury, but he has been steadily recovering and is now listed as probable. Jon Cooper would start if for some reason Sullivan is not able to go. And then there’s Cedric Griffin, who was [...]
Husain Abdullah Will Likely Start at Safety
Nothing is official yet, but all indications are that when the Vikings take the field Thursday night against the Saints, Husain Abdullah will be lining up at starting safety alongside Madieu Williams. Abdullah’s promotion is something of an out-of-leftfield development, given that all training camp and preseason the competition for that spot was between Jamarca Sanford and Tyrell Johnson. Then, in the last preaseason game, Brad Childress threw a curveball by working Abdullah into the safety rotation earlier than expected. That should’ve been a hint that Abdullah was at least in the running. Now we know that he was more [...]
We’ve been sweating the cornerback depth issue for weeks now, and here we are two days before the season opener and still the Vikings haven’t signed anyone to fill that need. And it doesn’t look like they’ll be bringing anyone in at the last minute either. Brad Childress more-or-less closed the door on any further moves to strengthen the defensive backfield, saying the team would fill that need “from within” instead. “From within” means two things: Cedric Griffin being healthy enough to play, and/or Marcus Sherels being signed off the practice squad. Right now, the coaches say they still consider [...]
“Aaron Rodgers Rock & Roll” is the Work of Satan
I always thought Satan was a giant red beast with a forked tail and cloven hooves and flames shooting out of his eyes. But I was wrong. Turns out, Satan is this bald dude with a cheesy mustache who writes songs about Packer quarterbacks. Don’t be fooled by his outwardly dorky appearance…Satan aka Eddy J. Lemberger is Pure Evil.
