Zip It Tarvaris

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tarvaris Jackson is now saying things like he wondered what it would be like to play for another team, thinks he’s only on this team still because of Chilly’s loyalty, thought “Maybe it’s time to go” this preseason and even takes on the loyal purple fans by saying he “doesn’t care” if people like him or not. You don’t care Tarvaris? Well frankly I do and have got news for you: THIS IS THE NFL. Zygi Wilf is paying the bills including over a million this year on you. There’s also more to this team than your friggin feelings. Being [...]

Confidence in Percy’s Health

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Vikings fans spent the holiday weekend digesting a trade of Sage Rosenfels & Darius Reynaud to the Giants, unexpected cuts in Javon Walker & Rhys Lloyd and TJ Houshmandzadeh going to the Ravens. But the season is only 3 days away and the time has come to talk about difference makers. Not backups, but the players you watch on SportsCenter. The players who have an 80+ rating on Madden. The players who you’d say are a “Franchise Player”. The guys who make you proud to be a fan. Insert Percy Harvin. On August 29th, Percy said on his migraines “They [...]

Cedric Griffin Could Still Make it for Opener

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

After Cedric Griffin tore his ACL in the conference title game, we were told there was a good chance he wouldn’t be ready for the start of the season. True to what we’d heard, Cedric began training camp on the PUP list.  He remained inactive throughout camp and the preseason, though he did reportedly work out extensively on the side. When preseason ended, the Vikings had to decide whether to keep Cedric on the 53-man roster or PUP him (forcing him to sit out the first six games).  They finally elected to keep him on the roster, a signal that, [...]

The Viking Age On Who Dat Report

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I got a chance yesterday to record a segment for Who Dat Report, a Saints podcast put together by a really nice and patient guy named Stuart.  It seemed like I rambled aimlessly for about a half-hour, but through the magic of editing, Stuart was able to make me seem semi-coherent.  We talked about a lot of stuff, including the Saints’ long, largely sad history against the Vikings (sad until last year’s conference title game, at least), the Brett Favre mess, the Percy Harvin mess, the Sidney Rice mess…and Brad Childress‘ oddball propensities, which always make for some good laughs.  [...]

Back-Up QB Questions Test Brad Childress’ Patience

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

We finally found out what it takes to make the eternally-deadpan Brad Childress lose his patience with reporters.  Just ask him one too many questions about his back-up quarterback. Apparently, the #2 QB situation was all reporters wanted to talk about during Chilly’s Sunday press conference (not the practice squad?).  At some point, it all got to be too much for Chilly, who dropped his familiar droning, quipping, analogizing facade for a moment and let his true exasperation leak out. “I’m done with the backup quarterback. I’m done with it,” Chilly snapped.  “You guys, if that’s all you’ve got to write, [...]

Vikings Complete Practice Squad; Chris Clark Finds a Team

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sunday turned out to be a somewhat less eventful day than most of us expected. After a Saturday filled with rumor and speculation, the belief was that T.J. Houshmandzadeh – or somebody at least – would be signed to fill out the thin receiver corps.  And, given that the Vikings currently have only 3 healthy corners, with a match-up against the high-flying Saints looming…well, we thought there would be a corner signing too. But Sunday came and went, and still the Vikings had not addressed either receiver or cornerback.  They did, however, make one late move:  signing G Seth Olsen [...]

Brad Childress Puts Brakes on T.J. Houshmandzadeh Talk

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yesterday, a Fox affiliate in Milwaukee reported that the Vikings had signed former Seahawks wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The report was immediately disputed by almost everyone else covering the Vikings. In this case, almost everyone else turned out to be right, and the Fox report turned out to be wrong.  Night fell on cut down Saturday and Housh was not a member of the Vikings. Even the people who shot down the original report had to admit that the Vikes probably were at least interested in Housh, and some speculated that a signing could happen on Sunday. But now Brad [...]

Vikings Announce Practice Squad Signings

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Everyone is on the edge of their seats today wondering what moves the Vikings will make to fill needs at wide receiver and cornerback. While you continue to wait breathlessly for that, take a moment and go over the list of practice squad players just signed by the team. S Colt Anderson G Thomas Austin WR Freddie Brown FB Ryan D’Imperio DT Tremaine Johnson WR Logan Payne CB Marcus Sherels The astute reader will note that there are only seven names on that list, one shy of a full 8-man practice squad.  This gives the Vikings the flexibility to move [...]

Report: Vikings Sign T.J. Houshmandzadeh

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last off-season, free agent T.J. Houshmandazdeh visited the Vikings only to spurn them in favor of the Seattle Seahawks. A year later, it looks like Housh has become a Viking after all. According to a report from Fox6 Sports in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (of all places), the Vikings have signed Houshmandzadeh just hours after he was cut by the Seahawks. The Houshmandzadeh signing comes just minutes after we learned, to our surprise, that the Vikings elected to cut WR Javon Walker, who seemed a lock to make the team after the waiving of WR Logan Payne. The second Javon was cut, [...]
