Conspiracy Theory: Did Sage Force Vikes Hand?
It’s a known fact that Sage Rosenfels outplayed Tarvaris Jackson in the 2010 Preseason. It’s a known fact that approximately 75% of devoted Vikings fans believe Sage Rosenfels should be second fiddle to only Brett Favre per polls on both The Viking Age and The Star Tribune. It’s also a known fact Brad Childress is loyal to Tarvaris Jackson as if he were his firstborn. But why? Why did Joe Webb get more reps in OTAs than Sage? Why a mere five days ago did Childress say “It’d probably be hard for it to change” on his BACKUP QB when [...]
Vikings Cut Roster to 53
The deadline for teams to trim their rosters to 53 is Saturday at 5 PM central. Refresh this page throughout the afternoon for updates. Cornerback DeAndre Wright is the first to go. The Vikes figure to be down to three healthy corners by the end of the day. Tight end Garrett Mills is cut. Mills caught 4 passes for 106 yards against the Rams this preseason…then promptly got hurt. That’s the story of his life right there. It appears Mickey Shuler will make the team. FB Ryan D’Imperio. He became something of a fan favorite with his gritty effort this [...]
In a move that is sure to spark heated debate, the Vikings have traded quarterback Sage Rosenfels and running back Darius Reynaud to the New York Giants for two draft picks. The trade puts an end to weeks of speculation about the final quarterback pecking order behind Brett Favre. It also frees up two roster spots, one of which the Vikings may now use to protect project quarterback Joe Webb. Rosenfels was brought to Minnesota via trade in 2009 to compete with Tarvaris Jackson for the starting role. That plan fell by the wayside, however, when Brett Favre became available. [...]
Vikings Win Sloppy One Over Broncos
The Vikings brought their preseason to a close Thursday night, beating the Broncos 31-24 in a game that can only be described as a gigantic mess. Like turnovers? The Vikes and Broncos combined for 6. Like penalties? The two teams were flagged a total of 16 times. Like questionable quarterback play? Tarvaris Jackson went 2-8 for two yards. On the plus side, after starting 0-6, he completed two straight passes. Then Sage Rosenfels came in and went 1-4 for a whopping 10 yards. In mop-up duty, Joe Webb went 5-9 for 100 yards, 1 TD and 1 pick, and ran [...]
The 53 Vikings of 2010
By Jon Merckle Please realize folks this is nothing more than a shot in the dark. None of us know what’s going on inside the heads of Brad Childress or Rick Spielman right now. What is known though is that key player decisions must be made. I will go into slight detail on why some guys are in and others are out. Those that are considered locks will not have much written about, as we all know what colors the likes of Adrian Peterson or Kevin Williams will be wearing in 2010. But who’s backing them up is up for [...]
Vikings Wrap Up Preseason Tonight Vs. Denver
A week from tonight, the Vikings will take the field for real against the Saints. But before we get there, we have to endure one more preseason game. And this isn’t just any old preseason game – it’s the 4th preseason game, which everyone knows is always the most boring and tedious. Of course, Brad Childress could save us from tedium by giving his starters some extra playing time, as he hinted he might after a ragged offensive performance against the Seahawks. However, I have to believe good sense will prevail, meaning we won’t see much if any of Brett [...]
Yesterday was the first cut down day for NFL teams. The Vikings reduced their roster to 75 by making a decision on Sidney Rice‘s status and sending three other men packing. First Rice. After hinting at the possibility of the receiver being placed on IR, ending his 2010 season, the Vikings finally decided to place him on the active/PUP list. The rules governing this list are more convoluted and impenetrable than the plot of Lost, but all we really need to know is, Rice will not be able to play for the first six weeks of the season. This is [...]
