Brett Favre Hints That He Could Sit Out
Brett Favre has started 289 consecutive regular season games…but that streak appears to be in serious jeopardy thanks to the elbow tendinitis the quarterback is currently battling. The elbow issue first came to the media’s attention during practice week leading up to Monday night’s Jets game, though Favre says the situation has actually been around for a lot longer. During the game, Favre seemed to have full velocity, but was at times wildly inaccurate. This inaccuracy prevented the Vikings from finishing the furious second half comeback Favre started by flinging a long touchdown to Randy Moss. In his Wednesday presser, [...]
Goodell Will Only Meet with Favre if Necessary
Per Daniel Kaplan of Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has no current plans to speak with Brett Favre on allegations that he sent illicit text messages to former Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger. And as of right now, that makes perfect sense. Until Sterger comes forward alleging this is sexual harassment we can’t expect Goodell to do much. It’s also known that Deadspin received these messages from a 3rd party, not Sterger. And while the timing of this is odd considering the Vikings played the Jets, this event happened two years ago. Chances are this [...]
Cedric Griffin Tore His ACL, Will Miss Rest of Season
Cedric Griffin just got back into the line-up a couple of weeks ago after a long off-season recovering from a torn ACL. Griffin’s comeback, sadly, proved short-lived: Last night the cornerback tore the ACL in his other leg, and will miss the remainder of the season. If you were watching the game, you could tell by Griffin’s reaction that he knew right away something was bad wrong with his leg. After the game he was seen hobbling around on crutches. Today he had an MRI, and got the official word. Obviously, this is a tough blow for Cedric, who worked [...]
Steve Hutchinson may have summed up last night’s Vikings performance better – and more bluntly – than anyone else. “You come out the first half and played [terrible] offensively-speaking,” said the All-Pro guard. “We screw around offense for whatever reason. You come out and play like that in the second half. It’s the oldest cliche in football. It’s a 60-minute game. You’ve got to play 60, not 30.” The Vikings’ “screw-around offense” managed only 51 yards, 3 first downs and zero points in the first half. Then in the second half the Vikes clicked over to “kick-ass offense” mode, scoring three [...]
Vikings Roar Back in Second Half, Still Fall to Jets
If the Vikings were trying to set a tone by coming out the first play of the game vs. the Jets and running a crazy reverse-pass with Percy Harvin and Randy Moss…well, it worked. Unfortunately, the tone it set was not one of high-flying offensive abandon but head-scratching offensive ineptitude. The reverse-pass ended not in a defense-rocking, crowd-stifling gain as intended but a five-yard illegal man downfield penalty, and was, perhaps predictably, followed immediately by a Jim Kleinsasser false start that set the Vikings back another five yards to make it 1st and 20. That possession ended with a Chris [...]
After the game, Brett Favre said he’d been thinking about throwing a touchdown to Randy Moss “for eight, ten years.” And last night it finally happened. And it was Brett’s milestone 500th career TD pass no less. Brett would get to 502 before the night was over, but that still wasn’t enough to beat the Jets. Follow FanSided on Facebook. Vikings Trail Jets 9-0 at Half
The Vikings tried some trickery to throw the Jets off early, running a reverse that looked like it was supposed to end with Randy Moss throwing a pass downfield. Unfortunately, the play resulted in an illegal man downfield penalty, setting a tone of ineptitude that the offense would mostly continue right up until halftime. The stats tell the story on this one: Through the first two quarters, the Vikings managed only 51 total yards, 15 through the air. Brett Favre was sacked twice and fumbled once on the exchange from Ryan Cook, resulting in the half’s only turnover. In his [...]
Who says Brad Childress lacks offensive creativity? What could be more inventive than this wacked-out and ultimately illegal trick play that I guess was supposed to end with Randy Moss throwing downfield but instead ended with Brett Favre – an ineligible receiver – catching the pass? Clever and entertaining as this play was, all it actually did was set a stumbling offensive tone for the Vikings – a tone they were still struggling to change as of the early second quarter. Vikings Face Tough Test Against the Jets
And now we will take a little break from the endless giggly Brett Favre schlong picture coverage to discuss actual football – specifically, tonight’s National Football League game of football between the football clubs the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets (this sentence brought to you by Mark Schlereth). Hmm…where do we begin? So many things to discuss. Randy Moss vs. Darrelle Revis. Brett Favre vs. the team that volunteered to employ him during his Ted Thompson-mandated one-year exile from the NFC North. The Vikings defense vs. the young and dashing Mark Sanchez. LaDainian Tomlinson vs. the team he [...]
