Brett Favre Drama Reaches New Level Thanks to Deadspin Story

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre and the Vikings would just as soon ignore the Deadspin story accusing Favre of sending inappropriate pictures and voicemails to one-time New York Jets employee Jenn Sterger as part of an apparent seduction gone wrong – and frankly so would I.  But, because the NFL has deemed the Deadspin allegations serious enough to warrant investigation, I guess I have to at least mention them, if only to remark on how I wish I didn’t have to mention them.  So, here goes:  I wish this story would just go away so we could all, as Mike Tice might say, [...]

Brett Favre’s Elbow is Becoming a Concern

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

One of Brett Favre‘s body parts is becoming quite prominent in the news these days.  Of course I’m referring to his right elbow, which was wrapped in ice during his press conference on Thursday as everyone watching the event noted with concern, and continued to be an object of discussion on Friday after it was reported that he practiced with a sleeve on his arm. Favre briefly addressed the elbow on Thursday, saying he is indeed experiencing soreness, but doesn’t think it’s a big deal.  On Friday, Judd Zulgad said Favre is “believed to be dealing with tendinitis.” Despite certain [...]

Sidney Rice Updates Us on His Rehab Progress

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sidney Rice wants to make sure we don’t forget him amid Randymania 2.0. In his latest blog entry, the injured receiver talks about welcoming Randy Moss into the fold.  “I met Randy today when he first came into the locker room and it was a big thrill for me,” Rice blogs.  “I had never met him before so I just went over and introduced myself. It’s pretty cool meeting one of the guys you grew up watching and looking up to. I can’t wait to get back out there and start working with him and learn some of the things [...]

Randy Moss Arrives at Practice

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

No drama so far as we move into Day 2 of Randy Moss Era 2.0.  The receiver arrived for practice Thursday morning as expected and, as we speak, is getting up to speed on the offense. In case you’re still not convinced that Brett Favre-to-Randy Moss has become a reality, here is photographic proof courtesy of Vikings.com. Brett and Randy are probably already working out their secret signals.  What’s going to be the sign for “screw the play they sent in and just go deep?”  Helmet tap?  Butt rub?  Point to Childress and laugh? Brett Favre Talks About Randy Moss Deal

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre stands to benefit more than anyone from the addition of Randy Moss to the Vikings‘ offensive mix.  Now, instead of trying to force the ball downfield to turds like Hank Baskett and Bernard Berrian, Favre will have a Hall of Fame receiver to heave it up to in his moments of gunslingery desperation. Whether this ends up actually working out is something we won’t know for a few weeks at least.  For now, all is happiness and sunshine and quotes like this from the Vikings quarterback: This is an exciting move, I think everybody feels that in the [...]

It’s Official: Randy Moss Returning to the Vikings

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Patriots‘ team website has put the stamp of officialness on the Randy Moss trade to the Vikings everyone has been talking about since late last night.  The report has the Vikings giving back an undisclosed draft pick; this pick is believed to be a 3rd rounder. Pats coach Bill Belichick said of the trade in a statement, “Over the course of the past several months, I have spoken with Randy and his representative about Randy’s place on our team and his future in football. Consistent with my dealings with Randy from the day we acquired him through our conversation [...]

Vikings and Randy Moss Not Talking Contract Extension

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

It seems almost a 100% certainty that, on Wednesday, Randy Moss will be traded to the Vikings for a 3rd round draft pick. Initially, reports were that Moss would not move to Minnesota without first hashing out a long-term contract with the team.  However, according to Adam Schefter, that sticking point has been removed.  Moss will come to the Vikings and play without first negotiating a new deal.  This makes the trade even more attractive, as the Vikings now won’t have to worry about getting stuck with a disgruntled Moss down the road when Joe Webb is playing quarterback.  They [...]

Vikings Close to Completing Trade for Randy Moss

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Vikings may have finally found an answer for their wide receiver problem. According to multiple sources, including Jay Glazer, Minnesota is close to completing a deal that would bring Randy Moss over from the New England Patriots. Glazer says the deal is contingent upon the Vikings working out a new contract with Moss, who is currently set to become a free agent after 2010. Moss showed frustration earlier this season over the Patriots’ unwillingness to give him an extension.  Moss has caught 9 balls this year for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns, but failed to make a single catch [...]

Vikings Trade Jayme Mitchell to Cleveland

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Vikings have been deep along the defensive line for a couple of years now, thanks to talented second-line players like Letroy Guion, Fred Evans, Jimmy Kennedy and Jayme Mitchell. That depth has rarely had a chance to show up in games, as the starters have for the most part remained healthy and effective.  But, the other advantage to depth is that, when you need draft picks, you can trade off your extra players to get them. The Vikings today parlayed some of their D-line depth into an extra pick, trading DE Jayme Mitchell to the Cleveland Browns for a [...]

The Packers and Bears Have Issues; the Vikings Have Hope

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Two Mondays ago, Viking fans awoke to a world where their team was 0-2, coming off a frustrating home loss to the Dolphins, while their bitter division rivals the Packers and Bears both sat at 2-0.  Prospects for a Viking playoff run seemed dim at that particular moment.  But, by the next Monday night, the door of darkness had opened a crack, admitting faint rays of hope.  The Vikings had gotten in the win column by smacking around the Lions, while the Packers and Bears, after a Monday night clash won by Chicago, were both left looking considerably less formidable [...]
