Pat Williams Has Choice Words for Unnamed Chilly-Bashers

Sean Jensen made waves the other day when he published several scathing anti-Brad Childress quotes by several unidentified Vikings players.  Among these quotes was the memorable statement, “As much as I hate Childress, I will keep playing.”

As of today, the identities of the Chilly-bashers remains a closely-guarded secret.

One thing that isn’t a secret?  Pat Williams’ feelings about unnamed sources.  Pat made it very clear during media access on Thursday that he has no time for folks who anonymously bash other folks, even if those folks are named Brad Childress.

“I don’t know,” Williams said when asked about the validity of Jensen’s article.  “That’s just all reports. Ain’t no names. That’s Sean Jensen. So that’s what Sean Jensen do. He ain’t going to give nobody no names. So I really don’t pay no attention to that. That’s all he-say, she-say stuff. He ain’t going to put no names put out there, so I don’t know if it’ true or not. That’s like somebody say I’m gay, but they don’t have to tell me who said it. I don’t know. But they’re going to believe it. They going to believe it. If somebody starts that rumor, they’re going to believe it. So that’s how it is. That’s all rumor. They not going to tell me who said it, so I don’t know.”

I’m not sure, but I think Pat may have just impugned Sean Jensen’s journalistic integrity.

Williams’ strong opinions aside, there is no reason whatsoever for anyone to doubt anything Jensen published.  Jensen worked for the Pioneer-Press and has solid Vikings sources.  I have no doubt that those unnamed players said the stuff they said.  And furthermore, I have no doubt that the ill feelings of those six players are only the tip of the Chilly-hating iceberg.

But I don’t mind Pat going off on a rant, even if it does include a totally unfounded attack against a journalist who did nothing to deserve it.  Jensen can console himself with the knowledge that he isn’t alone at the top of Pat’s “Guys I Don’t Like Today” list, but actually shares that distinction with Chester Taylor.  Pat’s comments about Taylor are hilarious:

"I don’t care about no Chester.  He’s not on our team, so I really don’t care about him. If you aren’t on the Vikings, I don’t care about you. … That’s how I roll.Chester don’t even start, so we don’t worry about him right now. He ain’t the starting running back. He’s the backup, so we’re going to try and put the other back out and put Chester in there. At the end of the day, we don’t worry about Chester."

Save that anger for the game, big guy.
