Anthony Herrera Out For Season
Injury has just been added to insult here folks. Right Guard Anthony Herrera has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL. “Lost” & “Season” are in full force now that we’re 3-7, however he was one of the more consistent offensive lineman for the Vikings this year. Insert rookie Chris DeGeare into the lineup to see if he’s capable of opening holes for Adrian Peterson or keeping Tavarett Favson upright. There will be more to talk about in the days and weeks ahead about this teams future, however you have to believe that signing or drafting a [...]
Brett Favre Sends Mixed Signals in Post-Loss Presser
While addressing reporters after today’s embarrassing 31-3 loss to the Packers, Brett Favre caused some ears to perk up when he said he planned to now “go home and re-evaluate.” This certainly seemed like an indication that Favre could be pondering retirement after a 3-7 start and a series of physical set-backs, but the comment was vague enough that one could not be sure. It took a few questions for anyone to follow the comment up, but when the remark was finally addressed, Favre tried to laugh the whole thing off, saying he wouldn’t have made the remark if he [...]
Vikings Lay Big Fat Egg at Home vs. Packers
Anyone who had any doubt that the Vikings were done for the season can now put their last shred of hope to bed. Today, the Vikings came out, dropped their pants and allowed themselves to be paddled by the Packers. The final score of 31-3 will stand alongside the infamous 41-0 score in the 2000 NFC Title Game as a low-point in Vikings lore. Aaron Rodgers proved once-and-for-all that he has climbed out of Brett Favre’s shadow and now stands along as on of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks. Rodgers was pressured some early, but then the Packers abandoned their short [...]
Packers Lead Vikings 17-3 at Half
The Vikings look like a team that’s on the verge of utterly blowing up. After a promising start, where the Vikings totally stuffed the Packers offense and moved the ball reasonably well themselves, things fell apart in short order. The meltdown began with a Toby Gerhart fumble after a short pass reception and run, then got worse when the Packers began torching the Vikings’ coverage, especially Chris Cook and Husain Abdullah down the sideline. The pass rush the Vikings produced early petered out as the half continued, giving Aaron Rodgers plenty of time to operate. Then the real calamity: With [...]
Vikings Look to Split the Season Series vs. Green Bay
The Vikings take their second crack at the Packers today, this time in the ice-encrusted Metrodome. The first meeting turned into a Brett Favre turnoverfest; three interceptions in the second half scuttled any chance the Vikes had of going 3-0 against Green Bay in the Favre era. Now, Favre takes his last (we think) shot at beating his old team, this time with Sidney Rice in the line-up. We presume Favre will be as jacked for this game as any he has ever played – but then it’s hard to tell with Favre, whose moods rise and fall rather mysteriously. [...]
Sidney Rice Activated from PUP List
There wasn’t a whole lot of suspense about today’s deadline to officially activate Sidney Rice from the PUP list. After all, Rice told ESPN yesterday that he was going to play Sunday, making today’s activation a mere formality. Of course, in Vikingland, nothing is ever as simple as it seems. So perhaps one or two fans got a little nervous as the 3 PM central time deadline approached and there was still no word from the Vikings on Rice’s status. Those fans can now rest easy: The Vikings have announced that Rice is off the PUP list, clearing him to [...]
It looks like Brad Childress is done letting Sidney Rice call the shots in his own recovery from surgery. Up till now, Chilly has let Rice decide from week-to-week whether he is able to play. But, the coach has now informed everyone that, if Rice doesn’t make it on the field this Sunday against the Packers, the team will shut him down from the remainder of the season. This certainly seems like a calculated move by Childress to force Rice’s hand. It will be interesting to see now what Rice does. If he isn’t quite ready to play this week, [...]
Five Questions for Ol’ Bag of Donuts
The Ol’ Bag of Donuts crew was nice enough to once again share their Packer knowledge with The Viking Age. We began this week’s Q&A with a question about the quarterbacks: TVA: Brett Favre faces down his former back-up Aaron Rodgers for (presumably) the final time this weekend. Who has the better game? Ol’ Bag Of Donuts: Unless you are looking at this game through green-tinted glasses, Packer fans should know that Favre will give it everything he has left to win this game, even if it costs him the rest of the season. Fortunately for the Packers, that may [...]
Bernard Berrian is Back at Practice
Bernard Berrian‘s troublesome groin has improved enough for the receiver to return to practice. The groin issue kept Berrian out of Sunday’s game against the Bears, a game the Vikings lost 24-13, dropping them to 3-6 on the season. Berrian was originally slated to start Sunday despite his groin soreness, but decided at the last minute that he would be unable to play. This decision led to Berrian being roundly criticized, mostly by people who never thought he was any good to begin with. Berrian, somewhat ill-advisedly, answered many of the negative commenters personally on Twitter. Now Berrian gets a [...]
Sidney Rice Wants to Play…He Says
Sidney Rice still hasn’t played a down for the Vikings this year. Last Saturday he was reportedly “close” but decided finally that his surgically repaired hip just wasn’t ready. This week, it will be up to Rice again whether he suits up against the Packers or shuts it down for another game. On his blog, Rice explained his decision not to play against the Bears on Sunday. “A lot of people are wondering what happened on Sunday, why I didn’t play,” the receiver wrote. “Ultimately, it came down to how I felt at the end of the week. I went [...]
