Giants Lead Homeless Vikings 14-3 After Brutal First Half

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Fans were given free admission to the Vikings-Giants game in Detroit…and those tickets may have been overpriced.  The first half between these two teams was just a brutal display of football.  Eli Manning threw two picks early, but the Vikings could not capitialize.  The Giants then got things under control and began showing that they are clearly the better team.  Brandon Jacobs keyed the first Giants scoring drive with a 73-yard run.  The Giants got their second TD of the second quarter when Eli Manning completed an efficient drive by hitting Kevin Boss for a 6-yard score.  Tarvaris Jackson‘s so-so [...]

Brett Favre Headed to IR?

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre‘s vaunted consecutive games streak is over.  Now everyone is wondering if Favre will even bother trying to come back for the last 3 games of the season, or will instead opt for early retirement. According to Ed Werder, the decision may already be in the process of being made.  Chris Mortensen just tweeted Werder’s report that the Vikings are contemplating placing Favre on IR, which would end his 2010 season and most likely his career. It’s looking very, very possible – as of now – that Brett Favre has taken his last snap as an NFL quarterback.  Truly, [...]

Brett Favre’s Consecutive Games Streak Ends at 297

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The greatest consecutive games played streak in all of sports – if not the greatest streak of any kind in any walk of life ever – has officially come to an end.  Moments ago the displaced Minnesota Vikings announced that Brett Favre will be inactive for tonight’s alternate venue “home game” against the New York Giants, terminating Favre’s run of 297 straight games. Let it be recorded that, when the streak did finally die, it was killed by Arthur Moats of the Buffalo Bills who slammed Favre to the turf early in last week’s game, leading to a sprained shoulder [...]

Percy Harvin Did Not Make the Trip

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

There was a little talk Sunday about migraine-ridden Percy Harvin possibly being well enough to travel with the team to Detroit and maybe even get on the field.  Well you can put that stuff to rest:  Percy did not fly to Detroit with the Vikings and will therefore, obviously, not be playing tonight.  Percy missed only one game in 2009 due to migraines, but that number will at least double in 2010. We still await word on whether Brett Favre will join Percy among the inactives. That news is expected at 4:50 CT. Follow FanSided on Facebook. Follow The Viking [...]

Vikings Logo Painted on Ford Field Turf (Photo)

Well here’s something I never thought I’d live to see:  the Vikings logo painted onto Ford Field in Detroit (via Vikings.com).  Of course I never thought I’d live to see Brett Favre in a Vikings jersey either. Maybe I should learn to expect the unexpected (sounds like a good slogan). Follow FanSided on Facebook. Follow The Viking Age on Twitter. December 26th Vikings-Eagles Game Now on NBC at 7:20

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Vikings are 5-7 and tottering on the brink of mathematical elimination from the playoffs, yet NBC still deems them worthy of a prime time TV slot.  Hence the network’s decision to flex the December 26th match-up with the Eagles from a noon start to the coveted Sunday night 7:20 PM central showcase position. I’m sure this decision has nothing to do with the fact that Brett Favre could be playing his second-to-last game ever that night in Philly against MVP candidate Michael Vick. Vikings vs. Giants…in Detroit

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more crazy and melodramatic for the Vikings in 2010…the roof of their stadium collapses in a snowstorm and they are forced to play a home game in Detroit.  But, it could actually be worse – they could be out of the playoff hunt.  Okay, so, they are virtually out of the playoff hunt…but the key word there is “virtually.”  Mathematically, they are still alive.  Of course it’s a long-shot for them to leap over three teams and claim a wild card, but crazier things have happened.  Like, for instance, the roof of [...]

Extra Day Off May Not Rescue Brett Favre’s Streak

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Thanks to the snow gods, who may possibly be in league with the football gods, Brett Favre is getting an extra day to rest his sprained shoulder. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like one day will be enough to get that shoulder right. Favre himself has reportedly said in a text message that he “doubts” he will be able to continue his vaunted consecutive games streak Monday night against the Giants in Detroit. The skeptic will insist that this is Favre just doing his usual “building up the drama” thing ahead of yet another seemingly miraculous recovery.  Perhaps.  Or, maybe this [...]

Metrodome Roof Collapse Video

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Video, Vikings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

FOX just happened to have some cameras set up inside the Metrodome when the roof collapsed.  The footage is rather stunning and actually quite terrifying.  Time for a new stadium?  I think maybe yes. Vikings Will Play Giants Monday Night in Detroit

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The NFL has made a decision on time and location for the postponed Vikings-Giants game.  The contest will now take place at Ford Field in Detroit on Monday night at 6:20 central time.  The game will be televised by FOX in the Minneapolis, Rochester (Minn) and New York markets.  My understanding at this time is that Duluth, Fargo, etc., viewers are SOL unless they have Direct TV or the URL of an illegal internet feed. As for next Monday’s scheduled home finale against the Bears…the last report was that the Vikings are bringing in someone to look over the Metrodome [...]
