Did Visanthe Shiancoe Just Accuse the NFL of Conspiring Against the Lions?

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Visanthe Shiancoe is known for saying and doing some pretty outrageous things, including tweeting a picture that accused Darren Sharper of being an Osama Bin Laden-like terrorist, but his latest shenanigan may be the most ill-advised of all. It all began when Visanthe started tweeting his feelings about the NFL’s new safety rules, and specifically, the controversial call against Ndamukong Suh for unnecessary roughness on Jay Cutler this weekend.  Nothing really shocking about that, given the number of players who’ve openly criticized this policy.  However, Shiancoe then kicked things up a notch by appearing to suggest that the NFL has [...]

Tarvaris Jackson is Still Not the Man

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s the sad reality of Tarvaris Jackson‘s existence that he could replace Brett Favre as starter for the remainder of the 2010 season and win every game by 21 points and most of the fans would still not be convinced he deserves a shot at being the quarterback in 2011.  This sad reality is not merely a product of typical fan unfairness either:  the fact is, Tarvaris has earned every last drop of doubt.  There’s a reason most fans want to stick with Brett Favre come hell-or-high water, and that reason is simply is:  they remember the years 2006-2008 when [...]

Vikings Sign Lorenzo Booker

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The price was finally right for the Vikings to sign UFL (and former Dolphins) running back Lorenzo Booker. As you recall, the Vikings wanted Booker a couple of weeks ago, but were unwilling to cough up the $150,000 transfer fee demanded by the UFL.  But since then the UFL has dropped that transfer fee to $25,000, a more reasonable demand in the eyes of the Vikings.  Today, Leslie Frazier announced that Booker has been signed. Another roster move is expected to be made later this afternoon to clear room for Booker.  Speculation is that Albert Young will be let go. [...]

Brett Favre Has Sprained Shoulder

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

The post-game pressers for both Brett Favre and Leslie Frazier were very revealing today. In Frazier’s presser, the coach cleared up any controversy concerning Favre’s status:  Frazier said Favre will start next week if healthy.  Then Frazier cleared up any controversy concerning his decision to stay with Tarvaris Jackson today even after Favre returned from the locker room:  the coach said that, according to the doctors, Favre could not have returned to the game. Favre then took the podium to offer his own take on things.  The QB revealed that his shoulder is sprained, and said that after attempting a [...]

Vikings Steamroll Bills 38-14

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre probably needed a game off…and he got one today against the Buffalo Bills, though that wasn’t what he and the Vikings planned on.  As things turned out, Favre lasted only three plays before being slammed to the turf from behind by Arthur Moats and injuring his shoulder.  While Favre went to the locker room to get checked out, Tarvaris Jackson came into the game and started going to work.  After throwing a pick-six to Drayton Florence, T-Jack settled into a nice rhythm, leading the Vikings to 31 unanswered points in the first half, including a sweet 31-yard TD [...]

Sidney Rice’s Brilliant 31-Yard TD Grab Vs. Buffalo (Video)

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Video, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sidney Rice‘s 31-yard TD catch was originally ruled incomplete.  Leslie Frazier threw his first challenge flag as head coach of the Vikings…and was rewarded.  Rice is finally having a big game after missing much of the season while recovering from hip surgery. Vikings Offense Explodes With Tarvaris Jackson at Quarterback

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Perhaps one should not make too big a deal about what the Vikings are doing today at the Metrodome, considering the level of competition, but…oh, what the hell.  So little has gone right this year, how can we help but indulge in a little excitement, even if it is only the Buffalo Bills?  So, here goes:  The Vikings’ offense, after looking downright sluggish most of the season, is finally on a roll.  The roll began, curiously enough, after Brett Favre was hit hard and left the game with a shoulder injury.  Tarvaris Jackson‘s stint in place of Favre didn’t exactly [...]

Brett Favre Injured, Tarvaris Jackson In

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre has taken his share of shots this season, including a hit under the chin that everyone thought had put the 41-year-old legend out of the NFL for good. Favre, true to his warrior nature, has bounced back from every hit this season.  But today against the Bills, he may have finally suffered the shot that finishes him. While executing a roll-out on the Vikings’ first possession, Favre was hit hard from behind and driven into the turf.  He came off the field with a shoulder injury, and was said to be “emotional” on the bench.  Tarvaris Jackson entered [...]

Update: Madieu Williams Benched

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s been a day of shake-ups for the Vikings‘ roster.  The most exciting news, at least from a fan obsession point-of-view, was the activation of Joe Webb for the first time all season.  Webb saw early action on a kick-off return and as a wide-out. More intriguing than Webb’s activation and insertion on an emergency basis, however, was the unexpected benching of Madieu Williams.  The highly-paid Williams had been a starter since his signing, but today, Husain Abdullah and Tyrell Johnson were the safeties for the Vikings when the game began. Interestingly, Tom Pelissero tweeted before the game that one [...]
