The Josh McDaniels watch is in full swing. The latest news comes from the ever-intrepid and Twitter-obsessed Judd Zulgad who just tweeted: “Josh McDaniels was definitely in Winter Park today meeting with Leslie Frazier and other Vikings officials.”
As reported yesterday, former Broncos head coach McDaniels is being sought by the Vikings as a replacement for Darrell Bevell at offensive coordinator. In one scenario, Bevell would be demoted to quarterbacks coach under McDaniels. In another possibly more agreeable scenario, Bevell would leave Minnesota altogether taking the last vestiges of the KAO with him.
And what might McDaniels’ hire mean for the Vikings’ quarterback search? Speculation has already begun that McDaniels would push Leslie Frazier to trade for his former Denver signal-caller Kyle Orton, who had the two best years of his career under McDaniels. The Broncos, as reported by our very own Jon Merkle, are looking for a second-round pick in exchange for Orton. I think a second-rounder is too much to give up in exchange for the former Bear, but others seem more willing to mortgage the future.
There is also no guarantee that McDaniels will even land in Minnesota. Yesterday today it was reported that several teams are in the running for the ex-Patriot offensive coordinator’s services.
