Josh McDaniels is off the board for the Vikings. Just hours after talks between McDaniels and the Rams reportedly broke down, ESPN is reporting that St. Louis has hired the former Broncos head coach and Patriots assistant to become their offensive coordinator. Apparently those broken down talks took a rather sudden turn.
With their presumed #1 OC target gone, the Vikings will now turn their attention to other candidates, including Falcons QB coach Bill Musgrave who the team will reportedly interview. If the Vikes fail to rope in Musgrave, they may have to return to Darrell Bevell who has been dangling in the wind during the entire OC search process.
Unfortunately, Bevell himself is now headed to Seattle to interview for a job there, perhaps as QB coach, perhaps as OC, so there’s a good chance he won’t be there for the Vikings to settle for if these other candidates fall through.
Another name to potentially add to the mix? Jeremy Bates who was just abruptly fired by the Seahawks after a fairly decent offensive showing in the playoffs. The only guy I’m sure we can discount as a candidate is Brad Childress.
