Is it a smokescreen or isn’t it?
That’s the question everyone’s asking today, after a report saying the Vikings were impressed by quarterback Jake Locker‘s workout.
A Vikings source went so far as to say Locker is “in the mix” for the team with their #12 pick. The consensus among draft wonks, however, is that drafting Locker at 12 would be a reach.
And remember that Rick Spielman promised the Vikings won’t reach for a quarterback, no matter how badly they may need one.
Adding to the Locker buzz, a Seahawks source said the QB performed well both on the whiteboard and the field during his workout for the team this week, calling Locker “a great kid who has a huge upside because of the intangibles.”
One report suggests Locker could actually be drafted #10 overall by the Redskins, meaning he would be off the board for Minnesota.
And then of course there are the inevitable conspiracy theories. These say the Vikings are only floating Locker’s name out there to distract teams from their true intentions. Many think the Vikings won’t even consider a quarterback at 12, unless someone named Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert is available.
It’s more likely that the Vikes will wait for the second round to take a quarterback. It’s looking more-and-more like Jake Locker will not be there.
