When I read the Titans were on Andy Dalton, my ever-grinding brain coughed up the possibility that this could set in motion a chain reaction of weirdness ending in the Vikings drafting Blaine Gabbert at 12.
I confess this was pure traffic-grabbing speculation on my part. However, sometimes our connect-the-dot games turn out to have more validity than we ever believed. Since posting the Gabbert thing, the Gabbert thing has become a genuine rumor.
Just moments ago Chris Mortensen added extra steam to the rumor by posting the following:
QB Buzz less than 4 hours away: If Gabbert slips past Buffalo @ 3, he could slide to Vikings @ 12, which would presumably push back Locker. Andy Dalton will be a first rounder. Locker, too. Mallett is mystery. One team still had 1st rd. grade but not certain they will take a QB.
Mortensen presents a scenario 180 degrees removed from the one raised by Rick Gosselin. Mr. Gosselin thinks there will be a crazy run on QBs, but if Mort’s buzz turns out to be true, Cam Newton would be the only QB taken in the top 10, allowing the Vikings to comfortably draft Gabbert. Or Locker. Or Ponder. Or Dalton or whoever they want.
I have a hard time believing only one QB will go top 10, but I suppose it’s always possible.
