Christian Ponder is in baking-hot Minnesota working out with Larry Fitzgerald (among others, including Kyle Rudolph) and getting in some face-time with reporters eager to pump him for quotes about the starting QB situation. 1500 ESPN’s Tom Pelissero got Ponder to talk about his comfort level with the playbook and his readiness to compete for the starting job, and not surprisingly Ponder projected nothing but confidence.
“I know [the playbook] pretty well. I think I’m pretty comfortable going into this thing,” Ponder told pretty-boy Pelissero (who I assume is eschewing his trademark scarves for the duration of the heat wave). When asked if he’s ready to start right away Ponder said, “I think so. That’s what I’m pushing for. That’s what I’m hoping for. So, we’ll see what happens.”
Ponder did admit that it’s been 2 weeks since he last threw and he’s a bit rusty as a result. “I’ve got to get my butt back in shape and get my arm back in shape. But it was good to get out here, get the first day under my belt,” Ponder said.
Among the other revelations from today: Ponder, who is still looking for a place to live in Minnesota, has been bunking down with Kyle Rudolph. How’s that for developing team unity?
Rudolph and Ponder were reportedly joined at today’s workout by teammates Brian Robison, Jaymar Johnson and Jasper Brinkley. And Tarvaris Jackson was also there, cause what the hell else is he gonna do?
