Viking fans will remember Devin Aromashodu as the guy who made Antoine Winfield look old and slow on a crisp December evening in 2009, burning Winfield and the rest of the purple secondary for 150 yards and a game-winning TD (a TD that never would’ve happened had Brad Childress not played Chillyball the whole first half…but there’s no reason to rehash that old story again, is there?).
After that brilliant performance it looked like Aromashodu was on his way to establishing himself as the #1 receiver the Bears had long been searching for. And then poof he just vanished. Now it looks like Aromashodu is ready to re-emerge, but in a different uniform. A Vikings uniform.
Sean Jensen tweeted moments ago, “Former #Bears receiver Devin Aromashodu, relegated to the dog house, might exact his revenge as a Viking. Could have deal there soon.”
As we all saw two years ago, Aromashodu has the speed to be a #1 receiver. But after last season there’s a lot of question whether he has everything else you need besides speed, including the hands and the consistency.
He would certainly come a lot more cheaply than Bernard Berrian, who the Vikings would have to pay nearly $4 million this year barring a contract renegotiation. It might make sense to simply let Bernard walk and replace him with another former Bear in Aromashodu, one who is hungrier to prove himself than the seemingly disinterested Berrian.
