Ryan Longwell Signs 4-Year Deal With Vikings

While we wait for Donovan McNabb‘s bad feelings to get smoothed over there are other players to focus in on, including Ryan Longwell who has just re-signed with the Vikings for four years at $12 million, $3.5 million guaranteed. There had been momentary concern that Longwell might not be picked up due to age and diminishing leg power but obviously the Vikings are not concerned about these things. And with kickers getting snapped up for big money they didn’t want to risk losing the man who has arguably been the steadiest performer on the team the last few years.

So if nothing else the Vikings will have a kicker they can rely in. Keep in mind that leg strength will be less of a concern with the aging Longwell (he’ll be 41 by the end of this deal) now that kickoffs have been moved up to the 35. Even Ryan can probably put a few in the endzone from that distance.

Ryan also figures to rack up the PATs this year with Donovan McNabb leading a touchdown-machine Vikings offense. I’m not being the least bit sarcastic.
