Donovan McNabb is in the house. Well probably not anymore – he surely wants to get some shut-eye at some point – but he was in the house earlier today to have his physical, make his contract official and participate in a conference call with the media. He is now a certified member of the Minnesota Vikings.
Next on the agenda for Donovan: Getting on the practice field with his new teammates. Though the Vikings are allowed to begin practicing on Monday, Donovan won’t be able to join them until August 4th per some goofy post-lockout NFL rule. But Donovan’s not concerned about the missed practice time; he’ll be able to use that time in other ways. As he told reporters today, “This will be the time for me to put on the mental cap and learn what’s going on while Christian Ponder and Joe [Webb] are out there running the plays. Me visualizing the plays and knowing where guys are going to be. Reading over defenses, knowing where I’m going to go with the ball. And then when the time comes that’s when you work with the guys and make sure that chemistry starts from there.”
Imagine that guys: A Vikings starting quarterback actually participating in training camp, getting to know his teammates and learning the plays. I didn’t know that was allowed to happen. Also, I wonder how I can get my hands on one of those mental caps. I could use one.
