It just gets weirder. Now Jason La Canfora is reporting the Vikings and Redskins have the parameters of a deal in place for Donovan McNabb, and all the remains to make the deal happen is the Vikings working out a restructured contract with McNabb who under his current deal is owed way too much money for any sane team to pay ($12 million or thereabouts). If this is all a Mike Shanahan ploy, it’s a great ploy that involves using multiple reporters from various outlets as stooges. I think I’m going to have to start believing in the legitimacy of [...]
Everyone agrees this makes no sense. Zero. Zippo. Zilch. Nada. Other words in other languages that mean “zero.” According to an ESPN report given by Adam Schefter on NFL Live and now delivered in handy online form for those who can’t stand watching Schefter’s lips while he talks, the Vikings are among several teams who have called the Washington Redskins about trading for Donovan McNabb. There’s no shock frankly that the Vikings would be interested in McNabb, given their need for a veteran QB and McNabb’s need to get the heck out of Washington. What is shocking is that Minnesota [...]
The Matt Hasselbeck era is over in Seattle, leaving the Seahawks in need of a new quarterback. Earlier today there were reports that Kevin Kolb could be headed to the Pacific Northwest but now it appears that was incorrect. Instead of Kolb, the Seahawks are targeting a different QB who actually has more experience as a starter in the WCO, a quarterback Viking fans are very familiar with. No not Brett Favre. How about Tarvaris Jackson? This is actually not a shock. We had heard for months that new Seattle OC Darrel Bevell still liked T-Jack from their days together [...]
Former Bear Devin Aromashodu May Soon Join Vikings
Viking fans will remember Devin Aromashodu as the guy who made Antoine Winfield look old and slow on a crisp December evening in 2009, burning Winfield and the rest of the purple secondary for 150 yards and a game-winning TD (a TD that never would’ve happened had Brad Childress not played Chillyball the whole first half…but there’s no reason to rehash that old story again, is there?). After that brilliant performance it looked like Aromashodu was on his way to establishing himself as the #1 receiver the Bears had long been searching for. And then poof he just vanished. Now [...]
The Vikings Have Spoken to Eric Weddle
Hat aficionado and 1500 ESPN contributor Darren “Doogie” Wolfson tweets this about San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle: Via David Canter, free agent safety Eric Weddle’s agent, when asked if he’s been in contact w/ the #Vikings: “Yes. We’ve spoken.” If the Vikings are indeed in pursuit of Weddle, you can probably kiss goodbye Madieu Williams. And who will shed a tear for the underperforming Madoo? Not I. Okay I’m getting a little loopy from trying to keep up with all this stuff. On Weddle: He’s considered a sure tackler, not necessarily a speed burner but fast enough, and a smart [...]
Vikings Cut Jimmy Kennedy
It appears Jimmy Kennedy will be cut by the Vikings. The defensive tackle just tweeted: Viking fans, Thank you for accepting me as your own, but Im sorry to imform you I AM NO LONGER With the Team. I love you guys. Be kool Releasing Kennedy would trim $2.5 million from the payroll for the Vikings. This may or may not increase the chances of Pat Williams being retained. There have also been rumors that the Vikes are interested in Bears DT Anthony Adams. The Vikings drafted Christian Ballard but he lacks the size to play nose tackle. The next [...]
Tyler Thigpen Has His Eyes On the Vikings
Remember all that drama years back with Tyler Thigpen when the Vikings wanted to sneak him onto the practice squad but he was claimed off waivers by the Chiefs and Brad Childress was supposedly distraught over losing him? It looks like the Vikings may have a chance to rectify that ancient mistake. In a tweet, Miami Herald writer Jeff Darlington said free agent Thigpen “has his eyes” on the Vikings as a potential landing spot. Thigpen also has his eyes on Tennessee, Buffalo, Seattle and Arizona according to Darlington. Whether any of those teams are also eyeing him is something I [...]
Vikings Undrafted Free Agent Signings
Here are the undrafted free agents who will be signing with the Vikings. We’ll add to the list as it grows. Feel free to drop any observations about these guys in the comments. A couple of these receivers may actually have a chance to catch on after we lose Sidney Rice and cut Bernard Berrian and Greg Camarillo. Update: The previous list, compiled by various sites as names were thrown out, is now replaced by the official list released by the Vikings. The Kentucky RB Derrick Locke is not on here for some reason. Rod Huntley (OG, UTEP) Allen Reisner (TE, [...]
Kyle Orton Is On the Trading Block
The Denver Post’s Mike Klis says that Kyle Orton‘s “days as the Broncos‘ starting QB may be down to hours.” The Broncos, writes Klis, have officially placed Orton on the trading block. The list of teams that could have interest in swinging a deal for Orton once the trading period begins Tuesday at 9 AM CT includes the Vikings, Cardinals, Titans, Redskins, Seahawks, Bengals and Dolphins. But that’s just a speculative list. Do the Vikings really have interest in Orton? Hard to say. Yesterday coach Leslie Frazier gave a strong indication that the Vikings intend going into the season with [...]
Ray Edwards Blasts Roger Goodell Because He Can
If everything goes according to plan Ray Edwards will soon be a former Viking and it will be some other Fansided blogger’s job to write about the stupid stuff he says and does. But for the time-being Ray is still our knucklehead, and he is still delivering the goods. Last night in an interview with ESPN Ray delivered the goods all over NFL commissioner Roger Goodell who I think it’s safe to say is not Ray’s favorite person in the world. Pulling no punches, Ray offered his assessment of Goodell’s leadership and the general feeling NFL players have (at least [...]
