Adrian Peterson has always been one to show a strong level of confidence without sounding cocky. He’s one of few NFL players capable of doing so. As a rookie his goal was to run for 1800 yards and the following year he had a goal of 2000. Whenever asked on team goals it has never been anything less than winning a Super Bowl. So today when he was “The Jungle” today with radio host Jim Rome the following was exchanged that should come as no surprise.
Jim Rome: As we stand right now do you feel like you’re the best (running) back in the NFL?
Adrian Peterson: I feel like I’m one of the best players in the league, the best player in the league. So, ya know, that trumps running back and every other position. If there’s anyone else out there that doesn’t believe that they’re cheating themselves.
With Chris Johnson of Tennessee holding out to be the highest paid playmaker in the NFL and Adrian in search of a new deal perhaps in the back of Adrian’s mind he wants a deal similar to what Johnson is seeking. At any rate, we just hope for a great season from #28. For him to meet his boast and brings home the MVP trophy it’d take a year of 1800+ rushing yards and 23+ TDs on a playoff team. In spite of question marks on the offensive line and Brett Favre retired (at least we think), Adrian will now be the focal point of the offense and expected to deliver. We can’t wait to see what’s ahead. Hopefully the talk is backed up with a career year.
