Tuesday Vikings Rant – Kevin Williams
So I sat in a classroom today in Virginia and the earth began to shake, rattle and roll. Really? I’m on the East Coast and I sit through an earthquake and in a couple days I get to give Irene a big kiss on the mush? I’m irritated. As you read today on The Viking Age, news comes down that it is possible Kevin Williams will have to serve a two game suspension for his taking of StarCaps. A two-game suspension? Really? What a bunch of s**t. I mean c’mon Roger G couldn’t we just let bygones be [...]
Kevin Williams May Face 2 Game Suspension For StarCaps
We still have no official word on whether Kevin Williams will be suspended this year for testing positive for a banned substance way back in 2008 (what a ridiculous sentence to have to type). We do however have a report, from Brian Murphy of the Pioneer-Press, saying that when the suspension is finally handed down it will only be half as long as originally feared – a 2-game ban instead of the original 4-game one. Murphy says the 2-game suspension – which, like I said, is still not official – would fall in line with a new two-tiered punishment system [...]
All Bryant McKinnie’s hard work getting himself into shape could soon pay off. Per a Sean Jensen tweet, the Baltimore Ravens may have interest in signing the former Viking, who was cut at the beginning of camp after reportedly showing up 50 pounds overweight and suffering from high cholesterol. McKinnie’s agent Drew Rosenhaus recently sent out a mass email offering McKinnie’s services at the low price of $2.5 million for one year plus “reasonable incentives.” It will be interesting to see what Baltimore ends up paying McKinnie if they do indeed sign him up. Undoubtedly, McKinnie will be brought in [...]
Chad Greenway extension is slowish
According to this report via Vikings Now the Vikings and Chad Greenway have not been making any progress on a new contract extension. Greenway is being paid handsomely this year, making $10.1 million due to the franchise tag. I find it interesting that negotiations are continuing and wonder if there will be a date where they postpone talks.
Vikings Sign RB Caleb King
Former Georgia running back Caleb King was signed today by the Vikings. King was eligible for the supplemental draft but only quarterback Terrelle Pryor was selected by the Oakland Raiders. King was one of the most heavily recruited RBs entering Georgia. His best season was his sophomore year where he had 144 carries for 594 yards and 7 touchdowns. He has good short area quickness, has an NFL build at 5’11” — 220 lbs and is decent catching the ball out of the backfield. Nonetheless he was a career underachiever at Georgia not meeting the hype and eventually being ruled [...]
Vikings Place Scott Kooistra On Injured Reserve
The Vikings may have won Saturday night’s preseason tilt with Seattle, but the victory came at a pretty high cost. Today Leslie Frazier revealed that guard Scott Kooistra suffered a jammed neck during the game, an injury severe enough that Kooistra has still not been able to leave Seattle. The Vikings have been forced to place Kooistra on IR, ending his season. The move freed up a roster spot which the Vikings have already filled by signing DE Stylez White. Saturday night’s game was Kooistra’s first start of the preaseason and his last (and probably his last action ever in [...]
Vikings Sign DE Stylez White
Here’s an interesting move: Today it was reported that the Vikings will sign former Gophers DE Stylez G. White to a one-year deal. The contract can’t be worth much as the Vikings are about forty cents under the salary cap, nevertheless Stylez seems happy about joining the Vikes as evidenced by this enthusiastic tweet. And what sort of player are the Vikings getting in Mr. White? One who has amassed 24 career sacks since being taken in the 7th round by the Houston Texans in 2002. To say White has bounced around since being drafted would be an understatement. Here’s [...]
Preseason Week 2: Vikings Stock Report
And that’s two preseason games in the books. Let’s do a stock report… UP Juaquin Iglesias & Devin Aromashodu We’ll get to Bernard Berrian being a down stock soon. Dan touched upon Leslie Frazier making an off-handed remark about not knowing who his 3rd WR would be. Well… Percy Harvin is unquestionably #1 and Michael Jenkins is also a lock to make roster. So what does that leave? In the meantime, Iglesias and Aromashodu both are doing some good things at WR each catching two balls for 30 yards. Both have demonstrated chemistry so far with Christian Ponder and to [...]
More Pre-Season Game 2 coverage: Vikings 20 Seahawks 7
What I liked:
Offense: McNabb and the offense looked like a different team. Kyle Rudolph made some plays, Peterson looked like he will be fan-damn-tastic, as usual, and a few WR’s made some nice plays. Ponder and Webb both showed their athleticism/rookism
10 Points: Vikings vs. Seahawks
The Vikings knocked off the Seahawks 20-7 in preseason action last night. Here are my ten points: 1. The offensive line looked pretty much the same It’s hard to evaluate the first team offense because they only got two series (I’m sure the plan was for them to get much more action but Marcus Sherels’ pick-six plus the Seahawks’ typically plodding Bevell-style offense meant Seattle more-or-less hogged the ball for most of the first quarter). The good news for the O-line was that Donovan McNabb seemed to have decent time during the one long drive in the second quarter when [...]
