You know how everyone is always saying that Donovan McNabb is injury-prone and probably won’t play all 16 games this season for the Vikings? Well we don’t have to worry about that…yet. So far the right wrist injury McNabb is nursing isn’t serious enough to keep him from fully participating in practice and certainly isn’t anything that will cause him to miss any game time.
Oh, you didn’t know about the right wrist injury. Well you’re not alone – no one else did either. Until today when it suddenly showed up on the injury report. But, don’t fret: McNabb wasn’t held out of any practice activities. He’s a full go for Sunday against San Diego.
So the wrist isn’t anything to worry about. But, just for the sake of argument, let’s say the wrist gets worse and McNabb is forced to sit out a game. For instance, next week’s home opener against Tampa Bay. How comfortable would everyone feel with Christian Ponder starting at QB, given what we saw from Christian this preseason? Just curious. I personally would not be very comfortable. In that last game vs. Houston he ran around like a chicken with his head cut off. Sure he ended up making some plays, but does anyone think those same plays will be there against a front-line NFL defense?
Let’s hope we don’t have to worry about that scenario for real any time in the near future. If the Vikings want to win any games they need McNabb in there. Period.
