Here we go again. Another big halftime lead for the Vikings. Two quarters of dominating defense and efficient-if-unspectacular offense. Is it just another set-up for disappointment or will the Vikings hold the lead?
They can’t blow a 20-point halftime lead to the Lions at home can they?
The Lions will have to play a lot better in the second half if they hope to erase the 20-point deficit. The Vikings have been throwing lots of different looks at Matthew Stafford who has not responded well. The rush has been getting to him. Detroit’s one deep shot to Calvin Johnson was beautifully broken up by Chris Cook. So far the defensive game plan has worked flawlessly. The return of Kevin Williams has definitely helped the defensive line.
Offensively the Vikings have been a little shaky but Adrian Peterson had another good half and the scoring was helped by a long Marcus Sherels punt return setting up a TD. Donovan McNabb has been inaccurate again but he’s made a couple plays with his feet. The only big problem for the Vikings has been their pass protection. McNabb has been put on his butt a few times. Charlie Johnson and Phil Loadholt have both gotten torched. The good news for the Vikes is that the tight ends and Percy Harvin have gotten involved in a big way. Nice job by Bill Musgrave opening up the playbook.
