Wherever Bernard Berrian goes, drama follows…and catches do not. Fans have long-since gotten fed up with Berrian’s act, which mostly involves making whiny, insane excuses for not being any good, but so far this season the Vikings themselves had given no indication they were ready to move on from the overpaid receiver. Until today.
Nothing is yet official, but it appears the Vikings have taken the first step toward ending Berrian’s troubled tenure as a Viking. KFAN reports that Berrian will be deactivated for today’s game against Arizona.
Berrian was not listed on the injury report at any time this week, so we can only assume his deactivation is related to his performance and/or the continuing fallout over his dust up last Sunday with Minnesota state rep and amputee war hero John Kriesel. Berrian’s unwillingness to let that particular controversy die has only worsened the public’s perception of him as a delusional malcontent. Not that the Vikings would sit a guy purely as a PR move…or would they?
Who knows. Maybe I’m blowing this out of proportion by believing the next move will be to cut Berrian from the squad. Maybe Leslie Frazier just thinks it would do Berrian good to sit on the sideline this week and take in the game. Or maybe Frazier just likes Greg Camarillo better at this point. We’ll have to see how things develop.
