The mystery of what got Bernard Berrian benched has been solved. It wasn’t the Twitter spat with John Kriesel, and it wasn’t the receiver’s dismal on-field performance. As the Pioneer-Press has revealed, Berrian was deactivated because he missed two team meetings on Saturday.
The Pioneer-Press cites “a person with knowledge of the situation” as its source. The information certainly didn’t come from Leslie Frazier who was his typical tight-lipped self when answering questions about the Berrian move on Sunday. “It was a disciplinary decision by me,” Frazier told reporters. “That was the reason he wasn’t active.”
With Berrian on the sidelines in a t-shirt, the Vikings romped all over the Arizona Cardinals 34-10. Taking Berrian’s place as the deep threat, Devin Aromashodu caught two passes for 81 yards, including a Sidney Rice-like 60-yarder in the second half.
And how did Berrian deal with the benching? At least one beat reporter caught sight of Berrian miming basketball moves on the sideline during the game – not the sign of a distraught individual. After the game Berrian reportedly beat a hasty exit from the locker room rather than face the media. And, interestingly enough, his Twitter has been silent since Saturday night. Maybe he does have a little shame after all.
