Christian Ponder Leads Vikings to 17-13 Halftime Lead

Christian Ponder’s first NFL start got off to a rollicking beginning when, on his first pass, the rookie hooked up with Michael Jenkins for a 72-yard pass play. Ponder sealed the deal a few plays later by tossing a TD pass to Visanthe Shiancoe. After his spectacular opening pass Ponder settled in for an efficient first half, completing 8 of 14 for 126 yards. Adrian Peterson joined in the fun by running 11 times for 69 yards and a touchdown. As expected, the defense had its problems containing Aaron Rodgers, but Jared Allen did sack him twice to slow down the Packers’ momentum and help hold them to 13 points. The key mistake of the half was a muffed punt by Randall Cobb to set up the Vikings’ second TD. Overall things have gone much better than expected for the Vikings against the high-powered Pack. One more good half of football by the Vikes and the Packers’ dreams of an undefeated season will be gone.

Not to come down on the Packers (as they are the best in the NFL right now), but I would have loved to see Chris Ponder get a win in his 1st start. He looked great out there despite the interceptions. Looks like Minnesota chose right in the draft..
