As most everyone knows by now, cornerback Chris Cook was arrested for strangling his girlfriend nine days ago and has now been charged with felony assault. On October 25th the Vikings announced they were suspending Cook without pay. They now face the challenging decision of what to do with the plagued cornerback. During today’s press conference head coach Leslie Frazier said the team “Has a lot to talk about” regarding Cook’s future with the team without saying whether or not he’d be cut.
This is a very delicate situation for the Vikings. Per league rules he is only allowed to be suspended 4 games without pay at which point the team has to decide whether to reinstate him or let him go. In the event Cook were cut, he would catch on elsewhere being the Vikings best cornerback this season and is only 24-years old. It’s also unlikely that Cook would face jail time as a first time offender. That being said; this is Cook’s second arrest this year, he did have academic problems at University of Virginia and has developed the reputation as not being the greatest of characters. For a team that has stadium issues and prides itself on a clean image Cook may not be the ideal guy to have on the roster.
The Vikings are bound to have additional communication on Cook in the next several days. Stay tuned.
