The Minnesota Vikings moved to 2-8 today after suffering another loss at home to the Oakland Raiders 27-21. This one could best be summed up as one where we didn’t make enough plays and the Raiders did just enough to win in spite of making a number of costly penalties.
Christian Ponder continued to go through his rookie growing pains going 19/33 for 311 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Too often he failed to see defenders and threw into double coverage. Percy Harvin was active rushing 5 times for 21 yards and having 6 receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown. Chad Greenway also had his best game of the season nabbing 15 tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss. But that’s mostly the good.
What most fans will remember from this game is continued frustration of a bad offensive line failing to protect Ponder allowing him to get sacked 5 times and hit 5 more (which is terrible for a rookie who’s pretty good an sensing pressure, wide receivers who struggle to gain separation for defensive backs and an underachieving defense most notably the secondary. Oh and Adrian Peterson hurt his ankle, has an MRI tomorrow but ultimately should be fine for what’s left of this lost season.
We’ll have more throughout the week. Enjoy what’s left of your Sunday.
