We’ve Met Before: Oakland at Minnesota

Series: Raiders lead 9-4

Last meeting(s): In 2007, Daunte Culpepper returned to the Metrodome for the first time and threw for 344 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a pick and the Raiders settled for five Sebastian Janikowski field goals. Still, Minnesota needed a safety, a 79-yard pass by wide receiver Sidney Rice, and huge game from Chester Taylor, who was filling in for rookie Adrian Peterson (164 yards and three touchdowns) to overcome five turnovers and win the game 29-22. E.J. Henderson and Brian Robison each register a sack that day and Chad Greenway was the recipient of Culpepper’s one interception.

Streak(s): Minnesota’s wins have been few and far between—1973, 1984, 1996, and 2007—win only one coming in Oakland (Minnesota is 1-5 on the road in this series). Minnesota is a modest 3-3 against the Raiders at home. The Raiders crushed Minnesota in Super Bowl XI.

New guys: Percy Harvin, Peterson, and Christian Ponder will each make their first ever start against the Raiders. Jared Allen has never faced the Raiders as a Viking, but the Chiefs were 4-0 against Oakland when Allen was on the field. Allen had six sacks in those four games (between 2004-2007).
