Vikings Sign Benny Sapp to Replace Antoine Winfield
Antoine Winfield’s second major injury of the season landed the veteran CB on IR, but the roster hole left by Winfield’s departure wasn’t open for long. On Wednesday morning the Vikings hastily worked out former Dolphin Benny Sapp, and by noon the team was ready to announce that Sapp had passed his physical and been signed to a contract. Of course we all remember Sapp’s first tenure with the Vikings when, filling in for Antoine Winfield during his 2009 absence with a foot injury, Sapp proved himself to be an able coverage guy. Sapp was traded before the 2010 season [...]
Leslie Frazier Calls Out the Defensive Line…Again
I’m beginning to believe Leslie Frazier isn’t all that enamored with most of the guys lining up on the defensive line for the Vikings. And what gave me that impression? The fact that Frazier has once again called out the defensive line for not making plays. In his Wednesday presser Frazier specifically addressed the D-line, which outside of Jared Allen has not been getting it done with the kind of consistency we expected. Frazier said the line needs to “take advantage” of one-on-one situations, adding “We need other players [besides Jared Allen] to make plays.” The last time Frazier was [...]
The Viking Age Monday Round Table On Tuesday
Vikings Tuesday Rant
I’m not one to call out professional athletes for lack of effort. Though I must admit the Purple were drawing the ire of many a social mediaites last evening during the Monday night professional football match. There were some, though not I because let’s face it I exist to put others down, but there were some that thought the active roster for the NFL Vikings had…ahem…quit. I am not saying that, because these are high skilled athletes with pride in what they do. These guys don’t want to be called quitters. They want to be winners and if you’re not [...]
Antoine Winfield Placed On IR With Broken Clavicle
The Vikings on Tuesday placed Antoine Winfield on IR, ending his season. Winfield suffered a broken clavicle during Monday night’s blow out loss to the Packers and is scheduled to have surgery. Winfield had missed several games with a neck strain before returning last night, but lasted only a couple of quarters before seeing his comeback come to a premature end. The question now becomes, what do the Vikings do about their disintegrating secondary? It isn’t just the loss of Winfield, it’s also the situation with Cedric Griffin who was badly abused Monday night by Jordy Nelson and the Packers, [...]
Something silly always has to happen with Brian Robison when the Vikings play the Packers. A couple weeks ago it was Robison kicking T.J. Lang in the groin, and last night it was Robison kind of sort of shoving the referee during a mini-scrum early in the second quarter. It couldn’t have been a very serious shove though cause the ref didn’t throw a flag or anything. We’ll wait to see if Robison gets a letter from Roger Goodell about this one. My feeling is, if the ref didn’t care enough to toss laundry, the commissioner should just let it [...]
Vikings Lay Down Like Dogs in Loss to Packers
What happened last night in Lambeau Field was flat out ugly. After hanging in for the first half against an apparently somewhat sluggish Packer team, the Vikings in the second half totally surrendered and allowed the Packers to tie them down and beat them senseless. The two teams that came out after half time could not have been more different. The Packers, after meandering through the first two quarters, emerged from the tunnel refocused and ready. And the Vikings? They might as well have not emerged at all. Deciding who to blame for this loss is like choosing which Kardashian [...]
Packers edge Vikings 45-7
The Vikings were never in this one. First the Packers scored on special teams and then the scored through the passing game, then they scored through the passing game again, and then through the air again, they also scored through the kicking game. They scored on deep passes, they scored on little hook patterns, you know because Jordy Nelson stiff-armed Cedric Griffin to the ground and went in to score. Then after the Packers were done through the air they pounded it down the Vikings throat on the ground on their march to a 45-7 victory.
Vikings Trail Packers 17-0 At Half
Here’s your positive spin on this one: The Vikings are losing 17-0 at halftime but honestly it could’ve been worse. The Packers got one TD on a punt return and another on a great Aaron Rodgers throw to Greg Jennings, then added a field goal, but since then the Vikes’ defense has pretty much stoned the Pack. The pass rush has gotten to Rodgers, preventing him from cranking up that fearsome passing game. Here’s the bad news: The Vikings offense has not been good. Christian Ponder has made a couple of good plays but has also been off on some [...]
Visanthe Shiancoe Says Adrian Peterson Found Glass in His Meal at Lombardi’s Steakhouse
Not sure what to make of this one so I’ll just go with the facts. A couple of hours ago Visanthe Shiancoe posted the following on Facebook: Every year that we play in GB we eat at Lombardi’s steakhouse as a team.. Ironically out of all people, Adrian has a huge piece of glass in his meal. The first thought you have after reading that is: Holy crap, someone at Lombardi’s steakhouse in Appleton put a chunk of glass in Adrian Peterson’s food! What the hell? The second thought you have is: This is coming from Visanthe Shiancoe so there’s [...]
