It was another ugly half of football for the Vikings. Do the Vikings ever play a pretty half of football? Well some of it was pretty. The part where Christian Ponder led the Vikes on a 98-yard drive capped by a brilliant Kyle Rudolph TD catch was very pretty. That drive contained just about all the good offense the Vikes played in the half. Otherwise it was kind of a trainwreck. Christian Ponder was gimping around like an old man after getting hammered by the blitzing Broncos. The pressure caused him to fumble on one occasion, and later he added an interception on a terrible read. The growing pains continue for the rookie; at one point he even committed the no-no of trying to call consecutive time outs, leading to a ten second run-off.
The defense by-and-large played better than the offense. Not that the Broncos are hard to stop with Tim Tebow out there not exactly lighting it up. Jared Allen had a highlight reel half, tackling a running back for a safety and, to the delight of Tebow-bashers, sacking the QB and forcing him to fumble. The Broncos’ lack of a passing game is really hurting them. If the Vikings can score another TD they should be able to put this one away. Unless Tebow is even more magical than we thought.
