ESPN Report: Brett Favre Would Listen If Bears Called

What to make of this ESPN report claiming Brett Favre would listen if the struggling Chicago Bears called him? Here’s what I make of it: ESPN will cook up any excuse to talk about Brett Favre. So what if the report sounds incredibly speculative and is based on the word of some unnamed source? It’s a talker. And ESPN needs lots of talkers to fill all their gab shows. Because Tim Tebow, Tiger Woods and BCS chaos just aren’t enough.

As to the question of whether Favre could actually help the Bears at this point…well, he probably wouldn’t be any worse than Caleb Hanie. And he would certainly be better than Donovan McNabb, the Bears’ other rumored option. Although, according to eyewitness accounts by various KFAN personalities, McNabb is getting himself back in shape…at Lifetime Fitness in Minneapolis. So maybe McNabb is now ready to take his business seriously. Or maybe some hooker made a joke about his gut and he felt bad.

Anyway, I doubt we’ll see Favre on the Bears. But it’s fun to think it could happen, if only because it would drive Packer fans totally bananas. Anything’s better than talking about the Vikings.
