Christian Ponder Misses Practice With Sore Hip

Christian Ponder gimped around for most of the game Sunday after taking a blitzing defender’s helmet straight to the hip. This did not prevent the tough young man from throwing for a Vikings rookie record 381 yards. Tough as Ponder may be however, he isn’t Superman. The hip pointer he suffered in the game caused all sorts of swelling, forcing the QB to sit out practice on Wednesday.

Don’t worry though fans, Ponder should be fine. His sense of humor is certainly no worse for the wear as demonstrated by the way he joked around in his weekly presser. When asked if his hip bruising would cause him to miss any games Ponder quipped, “Yeah, I’m going to sit out the rest of the season. Screw this.”

So Ponder should be good to go this Sunday against Detroit. The outlook is not so certain when it comes to Adrian Peterson who missed practice again on Wednesday as he battles back from a high ankle sprain. It’s looking like Peterson will miss his third straight game. During this Peterson-less stretch, Percy Harvin has emerged as the team’s big offensive threat, and Toby Gerhart has shown himself to be a dependable straight-ahead bulldozing running back. I’d still prefer to have Adrian back there…but of course I’d also prefer the games to actually mean something.
