Now is the time of the year for giving. And brotherhood. And wishing for peace on earth. And, if you’re the Vikings, throwing your ex-teammates under the bus. Yes the anonymous sources are at it again (those guys must have Tom Pelissero on speed-dial). This time they’re talking about Donovan McNabb. Pelissero reveals in his newest “Who to Blame for 2011″ piece the full extent of McNabb’s cluelessness. According to snitches, McNabb was so poorly versed in Bill Musgrave’s new offense that he didn’t even know the protections going into the first game. McNabb reportedly told teammates in a meeting [...]
Steve Hutchinson, Asher Allen Out for Redskins Game
The injury beat goes on for the Vikings (imagine something painful and throbbing). On Friday the team declared Steve Hutchinson and Asher Allen out for Saturday’s highly-anticipated noon tilt with the Redskins. Both players suffered concussions in last week’s beat down by the Saints and failed to pass the tests. For those who insist on going down the SuckforLuck road: Good news everyone, our already-weak offensive line and secondary will be even weaker. For those of us who choose to live in a world not dominated by gallows humor and masochism and other such painfully transparent coping strategies: Uh, I [...]
Unless you were living in a cave last night you saw or heard that the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Houston Texans moving their record to 2-13. This throws a wrench into the equation of which team secures the top pick in April’s draft for the rights to select Stanford phenom Andrew Luck. The debate rages on today of if the Vikings sit at number one do they select Luck moving on from Christian Ponder at quarterback or stick with Ponder trading away the Luck pick to the highest bidder, which could fetch a boatload of other draft picks. All this [...]
We’ve Met Before: Vikings at Redskins
Series: Redskins lead 11-9 Last Meeting(s): When Minnesota beat Washington 17-13 last season, then-interim head coach Leslie Frazier (coaching his first game) should have taken away only one thing: Donovan McNabb has become a very ineffective quarterback. McNabb was 21-35 with a touchdown and an interception, but the Redskins had numerous easy third down-conversions fall to the ground in the second half—to be fair, Santana Moss wasn’t helping McNabb at all. Still, to think that Frazier could watch that game live—from the sideline—then go trade for McNabb nine months later is baffling.
The official announcement is just coming over the airwaves as I’m writing this, but it’s been all over Twitter for hours so as far as I’m concerned it’s already official. Matt Barkley is going back to USC for his senior season, removing one major QB prospect from this year’s draft. The Vikings were never going to draft Barkley themselves – they already have that Christian Ponder fella – but the QB’s decision still has implications for Minnesota. As Peter King just pointed out in a tweet, Barkley’s return to USC raises the draft value of Heisman winner Robert Griffin III. [...]
I don’t need to tell you the Viking-related implications for tonight’s Colts-Texans match-up. If the Colts win they’ll have two victories, the same number as the Vikings. Assuming the Vikings then didn’t win Saturday – a safe assumption given that the game is on the road and oh yeah they stink – they would go into the final week tied with the Colts for worst record. The Rams could also be in that mix depending on what they do Sunday against Pittsburgh. So that means, by the laws of draft position smarty-pantsery, we’re supposed to root for the Colts to [...]
Minnesota Vikings 3 Round Mock Draft
Hi guys, I’m Jackson and I am a new member here at fansided.com. I am going to be providing the purple nation with mock drafts, updates on players that could end up in purple, players I think would be good in purple, surprise mock drafts(in which I try to figure out how the Vikes staff could surprise us), and much more to come. Now that you all know who I am and what I’m going to be doing here, lets get started on my first 3 round mock draft. Currently on this unimpressive Vikings roster, we have 3 gaping holes. [...]
Jared Allen Wins Pro Bowl Vote at DE
Jared Allen has been rewarded for a brilliant season by winning the fan Pro Bowl vote for NFC defensive ends. With 784,527 total votes, Allen beat out Jason Babin, Julius Peppers, Chris Long and Osi Umenyiora. Allen’s teammate Adrian Peterson finished ninth overall in the NFL but came in second at RB in the NFC, losing out to LeSean McCoy. Aaron Rodgers was the top vote-getter overall with 1.581 million, followed by Tom Brady (1.454 million), Drew Brees (1.188 million) and Calvin Johnson (1.180 million). The fan vote counts for 1/3 of the final total, so there’s still a very good [...]
Viking Players Upset With Team’s Handling of Chris Cook
Viking players are griping anonymously to the media again, and that spells more bad news for Leslie Frazier. As usual, the griping revolves around the secondary. Judd Zulgad got the scoop from inside sources that many on the Vikings are unhappy with the way the team has handled cornerback Chris Cook and his legal issues. The gripe boils down to this: While the active players are out there busting their butts (most of them anyway), Cook sits at home still being paid, and that ain’t right. It may not be right, but the Vikings had their reasons for dealing with [...]
Tori Gurley Got a Very Large Raise From the Packers
So it turns out I may have given Tori Gurley too much credit. When I first posted on the Packer practice squad hand’s decision to turn down the Vikings’ offer of a roster spot I assumed it had mostly to do with him thinking he’d get a shot to replace the injured Greg Jennings on the Packers roster. Others also tossed out the notion that Gurley stayed in Green Bay because he knows Donald Driver is on the way out, meaning a spot will be open next season. But the Jennings and Driver situations probably weren’t behind Gurley’s decision at [...]
