This morning Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported that Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III will indeed enter the NFL Draft. It’s widely assumed that the uberathletic Baylor quarterback Griffin will be drafted in the top 3.
So why do we care? Well if the Vikings lose today to they’ll be assured a top three pick giving them options. Stanford’s Andrew Luck is all but assured to go #1 with USC left tackle Matt Kalil and Griffin jockeying for the 2nd pick. If Luck and Griffin to 1-2 the Vikings could simply take Kalil shoring up their offensive line. If Luck and Kalil go 1-2 the Vikings could command a slew of draft picks for the 3rd overall pick. Both Browns coach Pat Shurmur and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan are already talking about Griffin.
So cheer for the Bears today and hope the Vikings have an extremely valuable pick. Or cheer hard for the Vikings to win giving them momentum going into next season. A true Vikings fan would never cheer against the purple. Yeah, I know. We’re 10 hours into 2012 and talking draft. I hate it too. Happy New Year!
