NFL free agency is beginning even as we speak, and there’s one less defensive tackle on the market. That’s cause the Vikings just gave back-up lineman Letroy Guion a new 3-year contract.
Guion has been touted as a future star for several years now, but the returns have yet to come rolling in. Maybe 2012 will be Guion’s year to finally realize some of that potential. It would be nice for him to develop as a replacement for Kevin Williams who is getting up there. Maybe Brendan Daly, the new D-line coach, can get more out of Guion than Karl Dunbar did.
Speaking of Dunbar…there had been a feeling that Guion might be targeted by Dunbar’s new team the Jets if the Vikings didn’t re-sign him. But that feeling went away when the Jets retained Sione Pouha. So there was no real urgency for the Vikes to get Guion locked up. But they did it before free agency anyway.
So Guion and Sage Rosenfels remain in the fold, but Erin Henderson hits the market. Work that plan, Rick Spielman.
