As things stand now the Vikings have no shot at drafting Michael Floyd, unless they want to use their #3 pick on him, a move that in most people’s eyes would be a serious misstep. But who knows what will happen on draft day. There could be a trade down from 3, in which case drafting Floyd might become a more viable proposition. A less likely scenario would have the Vikings packaging multiple picks and moving up into the first round far enough to take Floyd. Most mocks have Floyd coming off the board in the early teens and I see no way the Vikings could jump that far up from the 35th pick.
I wouldn’t bet too much money on Floyd ending up a Viking, is what I’m trying to say. But Rick Spielman is nothing if not thorough, so the Vikes will have Floyd in for a visit next week anyway. In a tweet, Alex Marvez reported that Floyd will visit multiple teams, including a bunch who are picking in that 6-to-16 range. The report is sure to fire up tons of speculation about potential trade partners for the Vikings but I wouldn’t make too much of it. Of course they’re interested in Floyd – they’d be idiots not to be – but as things stand today, he’s not a realistic target.
