It’s official: Adrian Peterson is active for today’s game against Jacksonville and will start. How many actual carries AD gets remains to be seen, but he’s out there, back in uniform, lacing them up, strapping them on. Ready to knock some Jacksonville Jaguars defenders into next Tuesday.

The Vikings did a pretty good job of milking the suspense on Peterson. All week they hemmed-and-hawed about playing him. The final decision, as expected, was not made until the morning of the game. I can’t even imagine how pumped up AD is right now. He’s pumped all the time but at this moment his head must be about to explode with excitement.

The fans are no doubt thrilled to see AD back. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. We still don’t know what kind of player Peterson will be with his reconstructed knee. Can he still perform those incredible cuts? Does he still have the same rocket-like burst through the hole? Will he still have the same fearlessness in blasting into defenders? We’ll have to see.

For now, AD is back. And the Vikings offense has a shot at legitimacy. If AD can be the old AD and the other pieces can fill in around him.
