The Vikings are so thin at safety that on Friday they brought in three guys for a work out. Among these was a familiar face from the last couple seasons. Tyrell Johnson. Yes the same Tyrell Johnson we couldn’t wait to run out of town. He was back in Winter Park Friday getting hugs from Leslie Frazier. The Vikings also looked at former Dolphin Troy Nolan and former Buccaneer Larry Asante.

Is the safety situation so dire that it would make sense to bring back Tyrell Johnson? Right now they have four healthy safeties but only three with experience. And Andrew Sendejo isn’t really that healthy. So really, if you’re talking about guys you can count on to stay on the field, they’ve only got Harrison Smith and Jamarca Sanford. Robert Blanton hasn’t been up yet and obviously they want to bring him along slowly. And Mistral Raymond will miss a month with a bone bruise.

So yeah, I guess they’re desperate at that position. Tyrell Johnson has the advantage of familiarity with the system though Alan Williams has added tweaks he hasn’t seen. Let’s hope no one else gets hurt back there. Tyrell Johnson? No thanks.
