Another name to throw into the wide receiver mix for the Vikings. Oregon State’s Markus Wheaton. This guy has been getting really good reviews at Senior Bowl practice. Here’s what they said about him on Draft Insider:
Tues: Really like what Wheaton showed today. Quick, fast and consistent. Fast off the line, ran exceptional routes and caught the ball very well. Did struggle handling jams at the line.
Fast. That’s the key word. At 5-11, 183 he’s not the biggest guy in the world. But he can definitely streak down the field and he’s big enough to function as an outside threat. The Draft Insider analysis suggests he needs to work on becoming more physical at the line. The important thing for me is the route running. That’s what we need to look for. That’s what guys like Jerome Simpson and Devin Aromashodu lack. And hands. Find an athletic guy with good hands who’ll work on running crisp routes. No more of these ball-dropping slugs.
Here’s a little video of Wheaton doing work against Arizona State. Looks a little Harvin-ish on some of those.
