The weekly FanSided mock draft is up. Check out who the Vikings are taking. If you don’t want to bother with a click, I’ll just tell you. It’s wide receiver Keenan Allen from Cal. A familiar name in all these mocks. If there’s a consensus right now on who the Vikings will get, Allen is probably the guy.

But you know what? I’m not so convinced the Vikings are going to take a receiver in round 1. Originally I thought it was a near slam-dunk. But when you really look at the whole pool of available receiver talent, draft plus free agency, I think it might make more sense to go defensive line or secondary in round 1. There are lots of interesting D-tackle prospects including Sylvster Williams, Kawann Short and Sharrif Floyd. Look at the receiver side, yes there are lots of interesting prospects there too, but some of these guys figure to land in the second round. This could be a year when you can grab yourself a nice receiver in the late second.

Or maybe they’ll just try to sign a big time receiver. Is Greg Jennings a possibility? Mike Wallace? These names continue to be thrown around. It all depends on what Rick Spielman thinks will help Christian Ponder the most. And of course, it depends on Spielman being willing to spend some cash.
