There was some confusion about how many picks the Vikings would actually have in the upcoming draft. Originally the team said they had eight but on Friday Rick Spielman cleared things up, explaining that the team will actually have nine picks. See here’s what happened. The Vikes agreed to send a conditional 6th rounder to Washington as part of the Donovan McNabb trade, and originally the team thought this pick would go to the Redskins. But it turned out the Vikes didn’t have to send that pick to Washington – McNabb didn’t play enough for the conditions of the conditional pick to be met – so they have nine picks.
Everyone clear on that now? Great.
For those wondering, here’s the run down of all the picks. The Vikes will select once in the 1st round, once in the 2nd round, once in the 3rd round, twice in the 4th round, once in the 5th round, once in the 6th round and twice in the 7th round. Pending the Percy Harvin trade which could net them an extra 3rd. A 2nd if they’re lucky.
