News regarding a possible Vikings draft target. The agent for Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen says his client will not work out at the combine (which starts Thursday in case you hadn’t heard). The reason is medical. Allen suffered a second-grade PCL strain during the season and apparently there is still some concern about that injury. Allen will consult Dr. James Andrews before proceeding.

What will this mean for Allen’s draft stock? Obviously it’s a red flag any time a guy has a physical issue. But my guess is this won’t be a big deal in the end. Allen already has a pro day scheduled for early April. So clearly this is just a precaution. No sense sending a guy out there now if there’s a chance he might suffer a health set-back. Wait a few weeks and then go.

Sure, you worry any time the name “Dr. James Andrews” gets involved. But again, this is probably just precautionary. Allen will get a chance to show his stuff at the pro day in April. It doesn’t matter if he shows it this week or then. As long as he gets out there before the draft and shows he’s healthy.

My guess is Allen is high on the Vikings’ draft board. My guess is this little bit of news won’t change that. These are only guesses.
