Alan Williams Shoots Down Dwight Freeney Rumors

Adrian Peterson can recruit Dwight Freeney all he wants. According to one important member of the Vikings’ coaching staff, Freeney isn’t coming to Minnesota.

Defensive coordinator Alan Williams shot down the Freeney rumor himself. Darren Woolfson tweeted, “Caught up w/ #Vikings DC Alan Williams at #Gophers pro day: “Doubt you’ll see Dwight (Freeney) in purple.”

The Freeney rumor may have only been leaked in the first place as a way of helping leverage Jared Allen into renegotiating his contract. Or maybe it was just one of those silly rumors. And it only got legs because someone attached Adrian Peterson’s name to it.

Bottom line: Freeney doesn’t look like he’s coming. Thanks Alan Williams. We were only starting to milk that rumor and now it’s dead. Stop with all your honesty.

On the other hand, he did sort of leave the door open. He “doubts” Freeney is coming to Minnesota. So there’s still a chance?

Good enough.
