I think one thing that tends to get overlooked on this discussion, and any other personnel discussions for last years season is the following. No one expected the Vikings to be in the playoffs. In every sense of the word, it was suppose to be a rebuilding year. However, Adrian Peterson willed it otherwise.

I think the team figured that if the worst case scenario occured and Ponder went down with an injury, then Webb could get some good experience and hopefully entertain the fans a little bit as well in what would have otherwise been a ho-hum year. Of course we all know what ended up happening, things didnt go as expected, and its very difficult to plan for the unexpected.

One silver lining to come out of the Ponder/Webb situation is, regardless of who is to blame for the QB situation, it is very clear that the Vikings do not know how to make the arrangement work. In all honesty, its probably a situation in which every party is a little to blame. Webb having limited ability to succeed, Spielman for note having a plug and play QB on hand, and Musgrave for not playing into Webbs strengths.

You can't give Musgrave a pass here. Spielman holds blame here but so does Musgrave. Peliserro's comment "Put another way, for all the criticism of coordinator Bill Musgrave’s play-calling, imagine the outrage if the Vikings had abandoned the
offense that helped Adrian Peterson win the MVP. If Musgrave installed a Webb-specific game plan and Ponder ended up playing, it would have created the same sort of issue. Their strengths and the way they see the game are too different" this is an idiotic comment. Saying that Musgrave didn't change the game plan just in case Ponder played is stupid. Players aren't robots that incapable of change. If they had practiced a Webb plan all week and then Ponder played, they simply would have gone back to the plan they played ALL SEASON. As an O coordinator your job is to adapt to the situation and run a plan tailored to the guys on the field. You don't run a plan that doesn't fit all game long, that's how you lose playoffs in embarrassing fashion.

Wasn't Webb suppose to be a receiver coming out of the backfield, an H-back type player? He has ability and the Vikings need receivers so give him a try where he belongs. MBT is suppose to have some talent as well so give him a shot as backup QB. Draft a couple of deep-threat wideouts, resign Harvin and Ponder will have his shot to prove he is a real NFL QB.
