Vikings draft CB Xavier Rhodes in Round One; 25 Overall

The Vikings took Three-Technique DT Sharrif Floyd to be the heir apparent to Kevin Williams.  With their second first-round pick the Vikings selected  Florida State CB Xavier Rhodes.

Rhodes (6’1, 215) is probably the best press cornerback in this draft. He blends size, length and power to match up at the line of scrimmage vs. receivers. He shows the ability to re-route and mirror off of his jam. Shows good man coverage prowess and can match up vs. big physical players. Rhodes is perfectly suited to play in a press scheme like the Vikings deploy.

The Vikings have no more picks for day one but have two picks tomorrow.  One in the second round (52 overall) and one in the third round (83 overall).  They also have two picks in round four which could be used as trade bait to move up into early round two to get a Linebacker.

The Vikings still need to address the middle linebacker position but currently Manti Te’o, Arthur Brown, Kevin Minter, Alec Ogletree and Jon Bostic are all still available.  The same can be said for the Wide Receiver position.  DeAndre Hopkins, Robert Woods, Cordarrelle Patterson are all currently still available.  The WR draft class is full and the team could wait for either position to fall to 52 or move up a couple picks to grab one of them.

Don’t count Rick Spielman out of trading back up for a player like Manti Te’o or Justin Hunter if the price is right.
