Leave it to the Vikings to find drama in the drafting of a punter. Yes the Vikings took a punter. Jeff Locke of UCLA came off the board to Minnesota in the fifth round. And of course there was immediate strong reaction to the pick. The Vikings took a punter in the fifth? That must mean Chris Kluwe is toast.
No surprise really that Kluwe is on the hot hot hot seat in Minnesota. Special teams coach Mike Priefer voiced strong feelings about Kluwe’s non-football activities, which included various controversial political stances. So is Kluwe being punted – sorry – for his outspokenness? Or is this purely a football/financial move?
You be the judge.
What do we know about Locke? No idea about his politics. Let’s hope for Mike Priefer’s sake it doesn’t come up. As for his punting…he’s a fifth round punter. I don’t know if he’s any good but he darn well better be good. Otherwise Rick Spielman’s spotless drafting record will take a hit.
