Vikings Take Penn State Linebacker Gerald Hodges in 4th Round

Everyone figured the Vikings would address their linebacker need at some point in the draft. I’m not sure taking an OLB in round 4 really helps the MLB issue but at least the guy is a linebacker. The guy is Gerald Hodges and here’s what it says about him on CBSSports.com:

STRENGTHS: Seeks out ballcarriers and delivered a physical pop upon contact. He has above average athleticism for the position, showing the range to make plays all over the field and the agility to avoid blocks and quickly arrive to the play.

WEAKNESSES: Hodges has added nearly 30 pounds of bulk onto his lean frame since high school, but he doesn’t have the body type to get much bigger, too easily getting hung up on blocks at the point of attack.

Basics on this guy: He’s a good cover guy. A converted safety. The plan is probably to use him as the nickel backer since we know Erin Henderson is garbage in coverage. Hopefully this guy can fit the bill. He’s a fourth rounder so how much should we expect? Probably not much.
